Abstract

The expression ‘Ad municipalem’ is very rare in Roman legal sources: it appears in Justinian legislation but also as the title of a small work attributed to Paul. The examination of this one, starting with the survey on the few surviving texts concerning excusatio tutelae, becomes functional to the investigation of the origin and value of that expression: this leads to a meditation about the overall reconstruction offered by Grelle in this regard, and to the verification of its assumptions on the basis of the exegetical study of the fragments.
