Abstract
The essay analyses the imperial legislation of the year 381, transmitted by the Theodosian Code and partially transferred to the Justinian Code. After a historical overview, particular attention is given to aspects related to dating and the recipients, followed by a survey of the contents. Then, a comparison between the two compilations is made, with observations on the naming of their respective titles, the selection of texts made by the Justinian compilers, and their choices regarding the new placement of the constitutions.
