Abstract

Thanks to the exegesis of many literary sources, and with the comfort of the examination of important archaeological finds, it is possible, for archaic Rome, to reconstruct the passage from the monarchy to the republic in a partially different way from how it is represented by republican historians and those of the age of Augustus. In this reconstruction proposal, a somewhat catalytic role emerges of the new constitutional system played by the Etruscan forces present in the territory following the military conquest of the Civitas by Porsenna, king of Chiusi: an event, this, for various reasons intentionally canceled by all traditional historiography.
