Abstract

The literature on legal certainty occupies an entire library. In this vast imaginary library,
Humberto Ávila’s volume, Theory of Legal Certainty, has a special importance. Although it presents itself above all as a dogmatic work on the Brazilian constitution, it undoubtedly has a wider, theoretical scope. And it is probably the largest and most systematic study on the subject conducted with an analytical method.
